The Haves and the Have-nots

Excuse the blogging hiatus, I guess I was in a blump (Blog-slump). This post is not about material existence, but rather joie de vivre, the passion and adventure of that wonderful gift called life. Some of us have it, others don't.

Many people vicariously live adventurously through others, as a means of enriching their existence. What do I mean? Well, par example, I once had a girlfriend who was not the most exciting nor the most adventurous of females, but she went out with a few "wild" guys, which I guess gave her life excitement and flair through them.

These primary people, the Haves, they are the ones who grab life by the scruff of the neck, shake it down a little, glare it in the eye and say "I am going to live you to the max, whether you like it or not". The vicarious ones, the Have-nots, merely allow themselves to be caught along in the slipstream.

The same is true in blogworld. I imagine there are many who sit around going "did you read X's blog?" or "have you seen what Y wrote?", without themselves having contributed or dared to write anything themselves. They are secondary creatures, living off the derring-do of others.

Many also get their kicks out of discussing their friends or relatives' antics, living their life through the prism of gossip and the frisson one gets when hearing about the adventures or misadventures of others. While the Haves have no need for this, their life being fulfilling and exciting.

I understand not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to become one of the Haves, someone stuck in a dead-end job all their life, or having to run a household with a layabout spouse, but more often than not it is in our hands. Who do we want to be, the Haves or the Have-nots?

Plenty more to come

TRK

I loved the passion in this blog as is showcased in the passage below.... This is the kind of stuff that makes reading blogs worthwhile:

Thanks for having an open comment policy on your blog, so many of the blogs make you be a blogger to write. I saw something you wrote to Arayah on her blog and I think she is a great person but does anyone know her father? I do, I know him very well, every thought and every horrible action. I know him through the magic of the internet and by what she writes about him. I don't know her mother as well. Not much is written about her. We should be supportive of her through her parents divorce but it's easy to forget nobody knows the other side. Maybe because I'm married and have children something just makes me feel I'm reading a very one sided story. Why didn't her mom take the children away a long time ago? In our community there have been abusive families and there is so much help and support for abused women and children when they have no choice but to get out. I'm married to a social worker and I've seen abusive parents in person. It is horrible for the spouse, wives and remember husbands can be abused too but especially for children. Something bothered me about this and I asked my husband to read the whole blog and he was bothered too. I also got the idea she is in high school. I might be wrong. In our home and in all of my children's friends homes mom or dad supervise internet access. This is a regular part of parenting frum teenagers today, no matter how much you trust them! I think commentors without children could be more sensitive to being critical of other peoples parenting styles until they have children of their own. If Arayah's father does read the comments like she said he does I think he should start his own blog to tell us his side of the story.

Everyone has the potential to be a Have, you just have to get up on that bunko bronco and hold on tight rather than laugh at the people that dare to get their hands dirty.

Almost everything in life is about the attitude you have towards it, and if you want it, you will have it.

Shavua Tov!
